Every Graphic Spaces purchase comes with a complete decal kit containing simple illustrated instructions, squeegee, plastic removal blade and free surprise gift! The following is a brief overview of that application process.
1. Surface Prep Your surface must be smooth, clean, dry and free of residues (grease, dust, dirt) for graphics to adhere. Prep your surface by wiping it with a soft cloth. Please note that freshly painted walls need at least 3 weeks for the paint to cure before application.
2. Rub & Rub On a smooth, hard surface, take the squeegee and very firmly rub over the entire backing paper with grid. Then, turn it over and do the same to the front side. This will strengthen the bond between the vinyl and the transfer tape.
3. Plan Layout Measure and plan your layout. Use a low-tack tape such as painter’s tape (or masking tape if you are careful). Depending on the graphic, you may need to use scissors to carefully cut apart the design and piece the art into place.
4. Create a Hinge After deciding on your exact placement, tape it firmly in place by creating a giant hinge across the entire top of the decal using at least 2 rows of tape. This ensures your decal won’t move when you go to stick it in place. Make sure your tape doesn’t cross the edges of the decal, oth er wise you won’t be able to flip it up in the next step.
5. Flip & Roll Flip the decal directly up onto the wall (so the backing paper grid is now showing and your hinge is at the bottom). Starting at one corner, remove the silicon backing paper by slowly rolling it back. The vinyl graphic should be sticking to the transfer tape. However, intricate details may want to stick to the backing paper. In this case, simply stop rolling, go back down with the paper, rub the trouble spot then continue rolling until the backing paper is completely removed.
6. Lower & Stick Slowly lower your decal down against the surface while holding it nice and taught. Using the squeegee, very gently smooth over the graphic starting in the center and working your way out. Once it is initially stuck and won’t move, then begin to firmly rub it down and press the vinyl into the surface.
7. Remove Tape Finally, remove the hinge and begin slowly rolling back the transfer tape by pulling straight down at an angle. Now the vinyl graphic should be sticking to your surface. Finish up by gently rubbing your graphic with a soft cloth to press it into the surface texture. Your graphic will appear as if it was painted on the wall.
8. Smile & Enjoy! If you have any air bubbles, use a needle to poke a tiny hole in the bubble and rub back over it to release the air. Stand back and admire your work… You did great!
